Twitter Post on Facebook Page Usage: My SEO mastermind ramblings for Thursday: When people say "I don't need a website because I have a Facebook page." I say "You don't have a Facebook page. Facebook has a page with your name on it." Own your own destiny and don't be controlled by a fickle social site.

Relying on Facebook Pages is a danger because:

  • Facebook can shut down your page at anytime
  • Facebook can discontinue the usage of Pages
  • Facebook can refactor the user feed to show less activity from Pages – and they did this recently

Others of concerns and risks include:

  • Facebook Groups
  • Website builders
    • WordPress.com
    • Wix
    • Weebly
    • VistaPrint
  • Online course creators
  • Etsy storefronts

Rebecca’s suggestions for small business marketing include:

  • Own your destiny and your content by building your own website on an independent CMS solution
  • Review where you are spending your marketing time and money
  • Ask yourself how much you control those marketing channels
  • Evaluate the risk level of these channels
  • Consider looking at marketing as an overall plan with many channels (website, SEO, social media, PPC, etc.)
